  1. I think that transgenic organisms are good. You can use them for many things, and most of the time it doesn't harm the animal or do anything to it, that could hurt it. They use some farm animals like sheeps, cows, and pigs to make vaccines and other useful things. Overall it seems like a good thing, but it might be bad in some cases.

  2. My topic was transgenic organisms. I feel that it is okay to perform this kind of procedure. I made this assertion because from what I have read they only use this type of technology to make vaccines for illnesses such as hepatitis B, cholera, and even cancer. In addition I read that this technology has been totally successful, for now, and that it is not harmful to plants, animals, and even humans. My assertion may not be totally correct due to the fact that I have not read the entire article yet. I feel that it is totally okay to use Transgenic Organisms.

  3. The topic of transgenic organisms is a widely debated issue in the area of genetic engineering. Some favor transgenic engineering and claim it has the potential to cure various diseases. On the other hand, we should recognize the harmful effects of intermingling the DNA of plants, animals, and even humans. While there are many positive possibilities for this technology, there are also a number of negative ones. A variety of problems include constitutionality, unfair advantages, and troubles with health or environment. For these reasons, I am opposed to transgenic organisms. We can make some fish glow or even solve medical issues, but is it right when organisms have to suffer consequences of this technology’s misuse?

  4. Transgenic organism can create many new possibilities to our world. By combining genes of different species we are creating a new species, which could affect our environment in the long run. I think in many ways this is great accomplishment for humans, we have figured out away to make things more efficient. By changing the genetic makeup of food, the can add different proteins that our body needs. By adding a gene from animal to another animal we can make an animal that become more efficient for us as humans. I feel like transgenic organisms are a great way to improve human lives but in time might affect the environment in a negative way by changing the natural balance.

  5. We can cure diseases with our new technology in transgenetic organisms. However I don’t really think we should do this because what diseases we may have now, we know about. If mutation occurs in DNA where we have edited an organism the consequence may be catastrophic. As a safety precaution we must destroy all individuals (excluding people) that we have tested genetic changes on. As an example: a firefly instead of making chemical light, emits an odor but if the same mutation occurs in a fish that we have made to make that chemical light it may become horribly deformed, or worse create a viral cancer. The chances of such a thing happening are similar to those of being struck by lightning but as time passes a mutation will occur. We may have insufficient knowledge to even know all the bad things that may go wrong.

  6. While I think that transgenic organisms can be pretty helpful with finding cures for diseases and helping find new ways of making better food and natural materials, I also think that it is unethical to do so. Not all of the things that are being tested have a good reason behind it, such as putting human brain cells into mice to see if they will live, or making fish glow. With the experimenting on animals with human genes, people are also wondering where the line should be drawn on if something is "human" or not. Things like this also start to run into religious beliefs. Lots of people say that it is unnatural and a violation of god's laws, and "playing god." Overall, I think that the creation of transgenic organisms will present more problems than solutions.

  7. I think that transgenic organisms can be helpful because of their cure on some diseases and problems. Some things like vaccines and medicine are made by using this technology. Some bad things could happen too like people complaining that it's against their religion. People are getting cured and stuff from this and people want to stop it because it is against their religion, do they want more people to die?

  8. Transgenic operations are not only a huge advancement in science, but beneficial in various ways. I do not understand why people would oppose an idea that could save lives instead of ending them. If you live near a rainforest, you would feel more comfortable knowing that the mosquitos that bite you are definetly not carrying malaria or anthrax. It is not harming the host organism, or the organisms it affects. It is similair to commensialism, because one(us) is benefitting and the host that "donated" the gene is not affected. Transgenic operations are in no way harmful, and in many ways benficial. I am all for transgenic organsims.

  9. I think that transgenetic organisms are a good idea, because it takes our technology to another level. This process is good because we have more of a variety of organisms and it is a good way to find out more interesting things such as diseases and other health issues. This gives scientist a chance to experiment with organisms and give them traits that are not normally found in regular organisms. By using this method scientist can come up with new things that can benefit us such; as cures for different types of illnesses. They also use this process on the food that we eat to give us more nutritious foods with vitamins that’s good for our bones. I think this process will balance out the earth and living things and we will be able to maintain biodiversity.

  10. I think that this is cutting edge technology that us as humans could use to and against our advantage. You could positively use transgenic organisms positively for things like growing better, more efficiant crops, or joining dna to provide a cure for a disease, but there's a bad side to the situation also. Transgenic organisms can't always be positively affected, for example, this may cuase a certain new uncurable disease or may cuase trouble to what is being tested on. This is just my opinion on it.

  11. I am with transgenic organisms for many reasons. One, a pig has the same size organ as a human so if we take an organ from a pig and put into humans in need of a transplant then the human can survive. Two, if an endangered animal is dying from a disease for example in the heart we could modify the animal and put in a transplant so the endangered animal could live. Also we could modify the endangered animal and put in a special organ to possibly make the endangered animal be able to produce more offspring and the endangered animal could become non- endangered. Yes, this could create some possible long-term effects on the organisms or even the environment.

  12. Transgenic Organisms have many good charactoristics about them but they also have bad things about them. The good things are that they can help us solve more of are medical issues. The bad things about is that we are mainly using bacteria and putting it in organisms, but how do the bacteria feel they may not be able to function properly and could die out. What if that bacteria was good and was one that we needed for our bodys?

  13. Based on what I have read, I think that transgenic organisms could be potentially good, and also bad. For what I have seen they have been more good for like example: Curing diseases, medical uses, protection (bullet proof vest), ect. But even though these are good, they are fears that with these technology that we could be creating by making them better almost by perfecting them and the rest be left as the under humans or the subhumans of the race.

  14. I am all for Transgenic Organisms because with any new found technologies there will be some setbacks but the benefits out weight the “disastrous” possibilities. One of the beneficial results is that we can save species from extinction due to our actions. Another beneficial outcome is that when the science of Transgenic becomes more practice we might find a cure for cancer or we might be able to keep a love one from dying but we have to take the steps necessary to go down that path to where we can benefit. We can progress in medicine but because of “ethical” enthusiast, the scientists in this field have been limited to making fish glow; however, if the enthusiast were really thinking straight then they would have let this happen. I believe that the enthusiast are afraid of change that could be beneficial to the human race, they are afraid of change because they are in self preservation. In truth they are unknowledgeable of the great advances that can be achieved through this study but I know that it’s up to everyone’s “moral ethics” not just theirs.

  15. Transgenic organisms are a very controversial topic in the world. Even though this could be used for good things such as vaccinations, stronger bullet proof vest and a stronger more durable way to close wounds. Thus these are great advantages I still disagree to transgenic organisms. I oppose to this subject because it’s unconstitutional also I believe God made things the way they are for a reason and changing the object to figure a problem out is wrong. If a scientist wanted to find a vaccination for a disease combine different techniques until you have found the right formula and don’t combine many different DNA from plants, animals, and even humans. These transgenic organisms will probably affect the environment because it will bring one more species into the environment and right now we don’t really have the resources to support another species.

Transgenic organisms isolate genes; they can make your child’s eyes bigger or even change the color. At first a believed that this biotechnology was alright and would be helpful. This can get rid of diseases and also mix plants and animal and human DNA. When I read that it can create new creatures from mixing different DNA’s, my opinion changed. Some say that this is “playing God” and it shouldn’t be allowed. I think that it shouldn’t be legal, because it could create a lot of problems that could have no solution. Transgenic organisms could be creating new diseases or altering humans to make a “slave race”. I believe that it’s not morally right to change what God created.

  17. I belive that Transgenic Organism are wonderful. I belive the things they are trying to do with Trangenic organism are amazing such as they have made edible vaccines that can prevent things like hepatitus, chlorea, and diarrhea. I also belive that even though Transgenic organism are good there is a down fall to it. There is a large amount of diseases or bacteria that animals have and humans don't such as the "mad cow disease", Nipah encephalitis, and etc. If those were to get in us they would cause harm and even death. Then theres people that belive that this is an violation to God. So Transgenic organism have it's good and bad outcomes.

  18. The topic I have is transgenic organisms. I feel like it’s a good thing. The reason I say that because of all the diseases it can help cure. So I really only think it should be used for medical purposes only, and it’s not harming humans or animals. Some people say that this is “violating animal’s rights.” This situation also have bad outcomes, like what if one of the diseases that animals have get to us? So people have a diff outlook on things, so its an opinion thing.

  19. By looking at the article, Ethical Issues in Genetic Engineering and Transgenics, I have come to an understanding that Transgenic Technology has helped out in curing many thing. For example, I found it very interesting how Scientists at Nexia Biotechnologies, a company based in Montreal, isolated the gene for silk protein from a spider capable of spinning silk fibers and put it in the genome of a goats egg. Not only did the goat produce milk containing the protein in which spider silk is made, it is supple for bullet proof vests and biodegradable sutures for closing wounds. There are defiantly many pros that come with this method; however, there were some cons that need to be better examined. We should be aware of the possible effects this method could cause to humans, animals, and plants, because putting the DNA of different organism can cause damages to many things. What will scientist do when an unintended person is made and when some species possible become harmed? Overall I’m pretty much for Transgenic Technology, but if it could be possible to eliminate some of the effects that have come with it then it would be even greater and useful. I mean everything happens for a reason and if your only trying to figure out what is wrong and trying to fix it then theres nothing wrong with that. I find it wrong when your altering someones DNA just for looks and things like that because thats not right. I do beleive creating more organisms in this world is going to make our resources decrease even more, but our resources are going to run out anyway, but not neccessarily soon.

  20. Transgenic Organisms , i feel, is a bad choice that scientists or whoever is accountable for them. They may be a good cause for them, but i believe that they harm the environment more than they help it. Transgenic is the process that you remove DNA from one organism into another organism. Don't get me wrong , I think it's pretty cool of a process , but it does however affect people in many different ways. Everyone will form there own opinion about this specific topic. Humans don't benefit from bacteria. The problem i have with this is that all animals are made the way they are for a specific reason. God created all things on Earth , so why would you want to change an original piece of work? Another issue i have with T.O. is that is causes health risks to humans, animals , and causes plants to degenerate. The plants that go through that contain toxins and many chemicals that could kill other animals as well as pests. Even though you are increasing the quantity of the plants , you are losing the number of animals. I think it's a total waste of time
